Product Overview

The Sepro Frontier bowl achieves significantly higher gold recoveries than the Knelson? and the Falcon bowl under many test conditions.

Whether you’re looking to recover coarse gold particles or fine gold, the Frontier bowl is likely going to immediately improve your operation’s output.

The Sepro Frontier utilizes the concentration mechanisms from both the Knelson? and Falcon concentrators. This makes the Sepro Frontier Bowl a superior choice in many mining operations.

How does it work?

The concept behind the parabolic riffle profile was to create a bowl with riffles on both sides of the dynamic slurry face. We wanted a smooth path for slurry flow up the bowl wall. The bottom riffles begin with a relative angle of 30 degrees and progressively decrease in angle until the top riffles are vertical.

The bottom riffles are exposed to the slurry flow, creating an eddy current zone of high turbulence. The top riffles are not directly exposed to the slurry flow, creating a non-turbulent zone of particle separation and recovery. In between is a transition zone where the angle of the bowl wall is equal to the angle of the dynamic slurry face.

This design dramatically improves overall gold recovery across a range of ore types, gold grades, and particle sizes.

recovery, you don’t want to miss this.

INCREASE YOUR GOLD RECOVERY

Have You Ever Wondered?

here have been anecdotal reports that the Knelson? recovers more coarse gold particles, and the Falcon recovers more fine gold particles. Previously, no one has published any rigorous, controlled experiments at the industrial scale to determine the relative performance of these two types of gold centrifuges for both fine and coarse gold.

What if you could perform better for both?

Improve Your Operations with Minimal Hassle

Sepro produced a Frontier bowl that fit as a direct replacement part in a Knelson? XD48 gravity concentrator. The bowl was installed at a gold mine in North America currently operating two Knelson? XD48 gravity concentrators with the standard Knelson? riffle profile.

Here’s what we found.

Tests were run on each bowl over two days, using the standard plant settings for feed rate, bowl speed, fluidization flow rate, and concentration cycle times. The standard Knelson? bowl achieved a cyclone overflow grade of 11.0 g/t Au while the Sepro Frontier bowl reduced the cyclone overflow grade to 5.8 g/t Au, a 47% improvement. This resulted in a 3x improvement in gravity gold recovery.

In pilot testing, we also observed 20% higher recovery on high-grade ore and 50% higher recovery on low-grade ore.

The Frontier bowl achieved these recovery improvements under all test conditions. From this information, we can infer that combining both concentration mechanisms (along with a smooth transition zone) dramatically improves overall gold recovery across a range of ore types, gold grades and particle sizes.

Based on the significantly higher performance of the Frontier bowl, it is a clear choice to use over any competing designs in the market.

Here are some of the benefits of the Frontier bowl as compared
to traditional bowl profiles

KEY ADVANTAGES
  • 20% higher recovery on high-grade ore with coarse gold particles
  • 47% improvement in industrial trials, reducing cyclone overflow grade from 11.0g/t Au to 5.8 g/t Au
  • 50% higher recovery on low-grade ore with fine gold particles
  • Improved gold recovery from 18% to 54%, a relative increase of 300%
When we called, Sepro responded immediately. While every start-up has its challenges, Sepro helped us through them and into steady production in record time. The ease of start-up and shut-down of the mill has allowed for greater scheduling flexibility, and more efficient new operator training. — Mine operations manager, North America

All Falcon Concentrators are fully automated. Despite having a multi-stage operating sequence, the Falcon Concentrators can be started and stopped with the press of a single button or signal from a plant control centre. Further, all Falcon Concentrators are fully instrumented to allow for quick process feedback and accurate process control.

What do your model numbers mean?
The model prefix designates the machine type. The suffix is the approximate concentrating surface area of the machine in square inches. A SB5200 Gravity Concentrator is batch unit with approximately 5200 in? of concentrating surface area.

Are there ‘gravity-only’ flowsheets available?
Yes, Sepro Mineral Systems has developed unique flowsheets to help clients achieve previously unobtainable recoveries without using any reagents such as cyanide.
